Using digital tools to create drawings and express creativity.
What if you had a magic pencil that never ran out of lead and a magic eraser that could travel back in time to fix any mistake?
In the world of digital art, your mouse or stylus acts like a Brush Tool. Unlike a real pencil, a digital brush can change its size and style! To draw, you simply click and hold your button while moving your hand. If you want to draw a circle, you move in a round motion. If you want a square, you make straight lines. It is like painting on a screen that never gets messy!
Let's draw a basic house shape: 1. Select the Brush Tool from your toolbar. 2. Click and hold to draw a square for the bottom. 3. Lift your finger, then click again to draw a triangle on top for the roof. 4. You now have a house made of shapes!
Quick Check
What do you have to do with your mouse or finger to keep drawing a line?
Answer
You must click and hold the button (or press down on the screen) while moving.
On a computer, you aren't stuck with just the colors in a small box. You have a Color Palette! This is a special menu that shows you every color of the rainbow. When you click a color in the palette, your Brush Tool magically changes to that color. You can switch from bright red to ocean blue with just click. This helps you express your creativity and make your art look exactly how you imagine it.
Let's make a sun with different colors: 1. Go to the Color Palette and click on Yellow. 2. Use your brush to draw a circle. 3. Go back to the palette and click on Orange. 4. Draw straight lines coming out of the circle to make the sunbeams.
Quick Check
If you want to change your brush from green to purple, where do you look on the screen?
Answer
The Color Palette.
Have you ever drawn a line that went the wrong way? In digital art, we don't need a messy eraser. We use the Undo button! The Undo button usually looks like an arrow pointing backward . When you click it, the computer 'forgets' the very last thing you did. It's like a tiny time machine for your drawing! If you make mistakes, you can click it times to go back to when the drawing was perfect.
Let's practice fixing a mistake: 1. Draw a cat's head (a circle) and two ears. 2. Try to draw a long tail, but pretend you accidentally draw it across the cat's face! 3. Find the Undo button (the back arrow) and click it once. 4. Watch the 'mistake' tail disappear while the head and ears stay safe! 5. Now, draw the tail in the right spot.
Which tool is used to create lines on the digital canvas?
What does the Undo button usually look like?
You can only use one color for your entire drawing in digital art.
