Applying what we learned to see how students can contribute to their community today.
What if you didn't need a cape or super-strength to be a hero right where you live today?
A local hero isn't someone from a movie; it is someone in your own town who works hard to make things better. We have learned about people from the past who started traditions, like holiday parades or community markets. These traditions bring people together. Today, you can be a hero by following their example. You don't need to fly! You just need to look for ways to help. When we help others, we are keeping our community's spirit alive. If one person does kind act, and another person does kind act, we have reasons to smile!
Quick Check
Does a local hero have to be famous or have superpowers?

1. Look for someone who needs help (like a friend who dropped their crayons). 2. Walk over and ask, 'Can I help you?' 3. Help them pick up the crayons and smile.
Quick Check
Name one way you can help the environment in your neighborhood.
Answer
Picking up litter or planting flowers.
To be a great hero, it helps to have a plan. A plan is a set of steps you follow to reach a goal. First, choose who you want to help. Second, decide what you will do. Third, pick a time to do it. When we plan our kindness, we are more likely to finish it! This is how people in the past started big traditions. They had a plan to bring the community together, and they stuck to it.
1. Who: People who are hungry. 2. What: Collect 5 cans of soup from your pantry (with a parent's help). 3. When: This Saturday morning. 4. Result: cans of food help people have a warm meal.
What is a 'tradition'?
